Chiranjeevis: The Immortals Who Remain on Earth

According to Hindu literature, there are a few immortal beings who are meant to remain alive on Earth for an indeterminate period. While many believe them to be living in obscurity under an ordinary guise, recent visits by the author to these exalted beings have been enlightening. These beings, known as chiranjeevis, continue to guide and inspire humanity.

Parsurama Swami: The Solitary Saint

In Gujarat, there is an individual named Parsurama Swami who exemplifies these chiranjeevis. He lives alone in a small hut without any followers, disciples, or devotees. His identity remains a closely guarded secret, with those who do visit him perceiving him as a sant or an average swami. However, his short-tempered nature and general religious routine reveal more than meets the eye. Despite his mild hermitic lifestyle, a handful of devotees occasionally seek blessings, finding solace in his discourses.

Aswathamma: The Rider of the Cosmic Waves

Another chiranjeevi is Aswathamma, a wandering figure who traverses the Indian countryside. The author has personally witnessed darshan of both these beings, whose roles in the cosmos are of great spiritual significance.

Breaking the Bonds of Mortality

The pursuit of immortality in the traditional sense is limited. Yogis and monks in the Himalayas have extended their lifespans through strict meditation and controlled breath regulation, but no mortal has ever surpassed 150 years. True immigration of the soul, however, is possible through a state known as Samapatti.

Those with extremely disciplined lifestyles and a keen spiritual quest can attain higher consciousness. In this state, chiranjeevis can separate their gross body from their subtle body. Subtle body, or Ojas, is the essence of life energy, distinguishing a living being from a corpse. Understanding the concept of infinity reveals that the universe and the life forms within it are vast and far beyond our comprehension.

Conquering the Subtle Body

When the Dhyana and Dhyata reach Dhyeta, the ultimate state of nirgun Samapatti is achieved. In this state, the chiranjeevis can control their Ojas and manipulate the elements of their physical body. This is the existence of the true immortals and guides of humanity, as described in ancient scriptures.

As with a baby in the mother's womb, our perception of the universe is limited. Just as a baby can only perceive the womb's environment, we must transcend the limitations of perception imposed by Maya to truly understand the universe.

Mysteries of the Universe

There are still many mysteries of the universe that cannot be fully explained, and the chiranjeevis play a crucial role in guiding seekers towards answers. The journey towards Samapatti begins with a keen obsession and a relentless pursuit of truth. The path to enlightenment is not easy, but for those willing to embark upon it, the chiranjeevis are ever present and provide guidance.

Conclusion

Through personal encounters and the wisdom of ancient scriptures, the existence of chiranjeevis is a testament to the boundless potential of the human spirit. As long as humanity continues to seek answers and enlightenment, the chiranjeevis will remain a guiding light on our path.

May the Goddess Narayani bless the journey of seekers and guide them to Samapatti.
