Dreams of the Future: Precognition or Coincidence?

Throughout human history, dreams have been considered a portent of future events, with many believing that our subconscious mind can foresee the immediate future. Some notable figures, including Prophet Mohammed, have even attributed dreams as a form of prophesy, suggesting that they may reveal precognition about upcoming events.

One well-known dreamer, who prefers anonymity, has shared several experiences in which dreams predicted future events. These dreams don’t always align with traditional precognition or dreams of the future, but rather offer detailed and almost real-time insights into the future. Let's explore a few of these fascinating cases.

1969 - Unearthed Expertise

In 1969, the author was working on a 203 Peugeot car, enhancing its engine with a supercharger kit to increase its speed from around 115 km/h to 150 km/h. However, the car's condition was poor, necessitating a search for a better chassis. During this time, the author recalled a dream where he found a set of aluminum rods in the spare engine part of his garage, which were extremely rare for the 203/403 engines. His search had been futile, but the dream was accurate. The rods were indeed there, prompting the author to retrospectively conclude it wasn't precognition but rather a confirmation of what was already there.

1974 - The Fork in the Road

Another vivid dream occurred in 1974. The author and a friend were planning to import crayfish using a refurbished Volvo refrigerated truck. Before painting the truck, the friend arranged to have it sanded and repainted at a specialized bodywork shop. The author dreamed in detail of his encounter with a shop owner, Mr. Moyet, who presented a new price of around 1600 Sfr, which was different from the 1000 Sfr initial agreement. Upon waking, the encounter repeated in reality with identical timing, words, and events, leaving the author deeply amazed and conscious of the dream’s fulfillment.

1990 - The Wind at St. Prex

The author is also a windsurfer, and predicting the wind is a significant challenge in the sport. On a Friday night in 1990, the author dreamt about a fine wind at St. Prex at 4 PM. True to the dream, a strong wind arrived, allowing the author to take advantage of the favorable conditions on Sunday, while his friend went home disappointed by the initial forecast of no wind.

2000 - An Unexpected Discovery in Bangkok

A more recent and less detailed dream occurred in 2000 in Bangkok. The author was waiting at the terminal for a long flight to Zurich. While waiting, he instinctively spotted a particular girl at the boarding gate, maintaining eye contact and realizing that she would be seated next to him on the plane. This prediction did not materialize, but it signifies the strange and almost premonitory ability of the human subconscious to catch glimpses of future events.

While these stories may seem extraordinary and almost supernatural, they highlight the subjective and mysterious nature of dreams. However, the existence of such precognitive dreams challenges our understanding of consciousness, free will, and the nature of time.

Conclusion

The cases presented here suggest that some dreams might indeed predict future events with remarkable accuracy. The author believes these are more about recognizing something that was already known to the subconscious mind rather than genuine precognition. Nonetheless, the tales serve as intriguing evidence of our subconscious's potential to provide insights into future events, invoking curiosity and furthering the study of dream interpretation in the context of precognition.
