Exploring the Mysteries of Consciousness: A Journey Into the Higher Self
Consciousness is one of the most fascinating and enigmatic phenomena in the universe. It's a mystery on how it works, and it's intriguing to explore the idea that our consciousness may be a spiritual light that extends far beyond our physical selves. Some scientists argue that anything beyond our physical field is separate from us, but there is a spiritual aspect to our being, often referred to as the 'higher self.'
The Nature of Consciousness
When we talk about consciousness, we often refer to the mind. There are two possibilities regarding the nature of the mind. It could be an 'emergent phenomenon' arising from the interactions of millions of neurons. Alternatively, it may be unprovable and unexplainable, like a real-world example of G?del's incompleteness theorem, which states that some truths are unprovable, just as the twin prime theorem suggests there is an infinite number of 'twin primes.'
The Mechanism of Consciousness
Consciousness, in the way we use the term in everyday conversations, refers to the act of paying attention to signals. Attention consists of a current of electrical impulses generated in the reticular formation of the brain stem and processed in other brain regions. Without a human body, including the brain, consciousness is not possible.
The Subtlety of Consciousness
It is true that without the human body, characterized by the brain, consciousness is not possible. What is consciousness: is it a thing or just a concept? We know sensations like seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and feeling, and we also know thoughts. The perceiver of these sensations and thoughts must be subtler than the human body. This is analogous to electricity, a phenomenon beyond our five senses. No human can infer or intuit electricity without a gadget whose effects are within the domain of our sensory experience.
The Higher Self and Intuition
Like electricity, consciousness is subtler than and prior to the human body and any gadget. We can reasonably postulate that the higher self, which perceives the human body and hence the cosmos with the help of the body, is independent of and prior to the cosmos, which includes the physical body. It is impossible to prove the existence of the higher self because it is not an object that can be perceived or measured; it can only be intuited by intelligence.
ThAT that perceives the cosmos, including the physical body, must be a no-thing spirit that is indestructible, beyond time and space. This spirit is self-existent and causeless, and it forms the foundation of our existence. Intuition and intelligence allow us to glimpse the transcendent nature of the higher self, providing a deeper understanding of our consciousness and its source.
In conclusion, the exploration of consciousness is a profound journey into the unknown. By recognizing the subtlety and spiritual nature of consciousness, we can begin to understand the true essence of our being and the vastness of the higher self.
