Reviving a Nation: Proposals to Change the Future of Portugal

Introduction

Imagine if you had the power to enact one change in your country that could transform it for the better. In this essay, I propose a set of laws that could reignite the spirit of Portugal and set its people on a path to greatness. The three changes I would propose are aimed at revitalizing property and community pride, controlling immigration for the wellbeing of its citizens, and instilling a sense of service and sacrifice in the younger generation.

Restoration of Property and Pride

One of the most pressing issues facing Portugal is the decay of its urban and rural landscapes caused by abandoned buildings and neglected structures. It is time to implement a law that cracks down on these eyesores.

A federal law could be introduced to impose strict penalties on property owners who fail to maintain their buildings. Instead of mere fines, tax incentives and subsidies could be provided to encourage the restoration and repurposing of these structures. By making Portugal grand again, not a land of ruins, we would instill pride in our people and ensure that each building stands as a testament to our strength and vitality.

End of Open-Door Policy with Controlled Immigration

The current open-door policy has led to an overpopulation of foreign residents, particularly in towns and cities. It is time to control and manage immigration for the benefit of all Portuguese citizens.

I would establish a quota system where only those with work permits guaranteed by companies that are fully responsible for their workers can enter. Residence will only be allowed if there is no over-occupation. The immigration flow must be halted if the health and education systems are strained. This law would ensure that Portugal remains a nation celebrated for its culture and heritage, free from the risk of being overwhelmed by foreign overpopulation.

Mandatory Military or Civil Service for Youth

Another crucial change would be to instill a sense of service and sacrifice in the younger generation. Every young man and woman should serve the nation either in the military or in civil service for at least two years.

This mandatory service would not only strengthen the defense of Portugal but also shape a new generation of disciplined, hardened, and patriotic citizens. By participating in service for the homeland, Portuguese youth would learn the value of selflessness and sacrifice. This would help to forge a new generation of leaders who are ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead, contributing to a renaissance of Portuguese greatness.

Conclusion

Implementing these three changes would awaken a dormant Portugal, shake it from the slumber of decline, and reignite the fires of greatness that once blazed in the hearts of our ancestors. By reviving property pride, controlling immigration, and instilling a sense of service, Portugal can once again become a nation that demands excellence, strength, and pride in every aspect of life.
